Road-Trippin'...

We got home from vacation late last night after a long (long!) day of driving, officially ending our beach vacation in Virginia. I purposefully left my computer at home so here goes the story of our week away...

We weren't sure if we were even going to get to go on the trip because of Dan's crazy work schedule, but since he was supposed to back to working normal hours in early May we decided we could make it work. Unfortunately, they were way behind on the project and he had to work nights/long hours literally up until the day we left which meant we left for vacation without really having seen Dan very much at all since early March. The plus side was that since Dan was already used to being awake during the night, we decided to drive straight through the night on Friday so that the babies could (hopefully) sleep the ten'ish hours there. They were champs. Jonah literally slept the entire way, just waking for his feedings which I did when he was still in his car seat. Jackson slept the whole way except for the last two hours and Audrey- well, she was Audrey- but did better than expected. I stayed up most of the time because I was paranoid about keeping Dan awake so we were both exhausted when we arrived, but it was worth it to have a peaceful ride with the three little monsters sleeping.

For as well as the drive there was, the drive home.... well, wasn't. We left at 8:30 in the morning on Saturday after finishing packing the car and cleaning up the beach house. I had the car perfectly organized with just about every activity, treat, surprise you can imagine to keep Jackson and Audrey entertained and Jonah was ready to go down for a nap. The first several hours went really well- we stopped for a long break during lunch time to eat, play at a park to get some energy out and even drove through Monticello. After that all three babies took a nap (amazing!), but then it started going downhill. Audrey had a tummy ache so we had to stop a few times for the potty, everyone was tired, the trip was taking much longer than it did on the way there and with about five hours to go Jonah decided he had enough. There is nothing in the world that makes my heart hurt more than hearing him so upset and not being able to do anything about it. Thankfully we finally, finally arrived home late last night after almost fifteen hours in the car.
